If you’re looking for full-time work, and are registered as a job seeker with Centrelink, you may be eligible for the Skills for Education and Employment (SEE) program. Offered through TAFE Queensland, the program will help you practice interviewing for jobs, earn qualifications to stand out in the hiring process, and learn new skills in areas including retail, business, IT, and hospitality.

Free to attend

The best thing about the SEE program at TAFE Queensland is it won’t cost you anything to attend. As a SEE student, you will have up to 650 hours of free training to prepare for the work force. You’ll set goals and learn valuable skills to give you a head start in the job market.

Train at TAFE Queensland

From workshops to beauty salons, we have some of the best training facilities in the state. Our SEE students can take advantage of over 40 study locations around Queensland. You’ll have face-to-face time with your teachers, make friends in the classroom, and be able to attend student events and access the entire range of student support services.

Your pathway to a qualification

If you’re considering getting a trade qualification or diploma, you may be able to get a head start on your training through SEE. As part of your course, you could complete units in a Diploma or Certificate, achieve the basic entry requirements for the Australian Defence Force, or earn your Year 10 Equivalency.

 

Getting Started

How to apply

 

To apply for the SEE program you must meet the following eligibility criteria: 

  • be an Australian citizen or permanent resident
  • be 15 years-of-age or older
  • be registered as a job seeker with Centrelink or an employment agency
  • meet the rules on Centrelink benefits and visa status.

Once you've checked you meet the eligibility criteria, you'll need to:

  • call Centrelink or your job agency and let them know you want to enrol in the Skills for Education and Employment program at TAFE Queensland
  • attend the pre-training interview at your local TAFE Queensland campus.
Information for employment service providers

 

To refer a job seeker to the SEE program:

  • check they meet the eligibility criteria (as detailed under the 'How to apply' section) 
  • confirm which TAFE Queensland location they would like to attend
  • call TAFE Queensland to arrange a pre-training interview and advise TAFE Queensland of the job seeker's obligations as required by the referral agency or Department of Human Services
  • code the referral in the Employment Services Software (ESS) and use the relevant ESS Activity ID
  • provide the job seeker with the location, date and time of their pre-training interview appointment.
