It’s been 30 years since the TAFE Queensland campus in Warwick first opened its doors.

Officially opened on 2nd November 1988 by Honourable Vince Lester, M.L.A., Minister for Employment, Training and Industrial Affairs and D.P. Beddall Esq., M.P., Member for Rankin, it’s been 30 years since our Warwick campus first opened its doors.

It was a brand new, exciting educational facility offering a range of courses and great opportunities to the Warwick community. We’ve caught up with Barbara Fagan, one of the very first students, to celebrate this milestone and take a step back through memory lane.

"The campus opening in 1988 was exciting for the Warwick community; to have access to an excellent educational facility that offered a range of courses including hairdressing, cooking, business studies and agriculture was amazing" Barbara said.

"From 17 October to 9 December 1988 I took an electronic office studies course as I needed to get computer knowledge and improve on my secretarial skills," she said.

"After completing the eight week course in 1988 I decided to further my study and enrol into a one year business studies course in 1989."

Barbara also reflects fondly on her teachers and the friends she made during her time at TAFE Queensland.

"As I was there for a full year I got to know the few teachers that I had; they encouraged me with my studies and to have more confidence in myself," she said.

"The friendships that I made with the students that I studied with grew strong. I still have the occasion to see one or two after so many years."

But that wasn't the end of Barbara's journey with TAFE Queensland.

"I was then employed by TAFE College on a casual basis from March to April 1991, using the skills that I learnt from my studies and have assisted me greatly in my job."

The skills Barbara learnt at the Warwick campus have been put to good use. Since then she has worked in local government in the region for the past 26 years, working as an Administration Officer, Customer Service Officer, and is currently the Personal Assistant to the Director of Engineering Services at Southern Downs Regional Council.
